FEMA Identifies and Maps Special Flood Hazard Areas

One function of FEMA, The Federal Emergency Management Agency, is to prepare for and mitigate loss of life and property from rising waters resulting from floods and hurricanes. Administering the National Flood Insurance Program, FEMA identifies and maps Special Flood Hazard Areas. These Special Flood Hazard Areas are then mapped onto Flood Insurance Rate Maps.

Community Flooding

The Flood Insurance Rate Maps for your community identifies those areas prone to flooding

Flooded Property

Specific flood zones identify where flooding will likely occur, resulting from a 100-year storm events and where studied, the calculated elevation those flood waters will rise to.

The Foster Survey Company FEMA Flood Elevation Certificates service includes:

Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)

First, we research the specific Flood Insurance Rate Map for your property.

Geographic Information System (GIS)

We also identify other geographical data, or GIS data, to help us in mapping the flood zones on or near to your land.

GPS Control Survey

When a published elevation benchmark is not available near your property, which is often, we conduct a highly precise and accurate GPS Control Survey to set a benchmark near your land.

Elevation Survey

We then measure the elevations of your home’s floors, mechanical equipment, like your furnace and water heater, for example, and the land elevations immediately adjacent to your house.

Measure for Elevations

Part of the service includes taking measurements inside your home. We will work around your schedule, to make the process as easy and painless as possible.
