RI FEMA Flood Elevation Certificates Easily Ordered Online
Posted on June 28th, 2011 No commentsNavigating the ins and outs of purchasing flood insurance is difficult enough without having to worry about purchasing a FEMA Flood Elevation Certificate. That’s why we at Foster Survey Company have made it easy to order RI FEMA Elevation Certificates online.
FEMA Elevation Certificate
The Elevation Certificate is an important administrative tool of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). It is to be used to provide elevation information necessary to ensure compliance with community floodplain management ordinances, to determine the proper insurance premium rate, and to support a request for a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) or Letter of Map Revision based on fill (LOMR-F). The Elevation Certificate is required in order to properly rate post-FIRM buildings.

Rhode Island Cesspool Phaseout Act Letters Sent
Posted on March 1st, 2011 4 commentsThe Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM) has issued the first round of notification letters to owners of properties that may be subject to the RI Cesspool Phaseout Act of 2007. You may already have received a letter from RI DEM or heard about this on the news tonight (see video below).
Jamestown and North Kingstown First to Get Notices

Uncovered Cesspool
RIDEM has informed us that the first batch of letters were sent to the towns of Jamestown and North Kingstown. Notification letters will then be sent, in batches, to additional towns in the coming weeks. RI DEM has also said that as the list of towns that letters are being sent to, that they will notify us of these additions. At that time, we will update you, too.

Did You Know There’s a 30-Day Waiting Period For New Flood Insurance Policies To Take Effect?
Posted on February 23rd, 2011 No commentsLast week we were working on a few FEMA Elevation Certificates and fielding calls and questions about flood zones, so I wrote FEMA Flood Zone Designations Defined. In researching for that article, I came across FEMA produced videos of last spring’s historic floods in Rhode Island (see below).
Also, in looking at the requirements for purchasing Flood Insurance, I was reminded of one very important fact when purchasing a new Flood Insurance Policy.
What is the Waiting Period for New Flood Insurance Policies to Take Effect?
You may be surprised to learn that if you purchase a new Flood Insurance policy, you might not be covered immediately. In fact, you likely won’t be covered for flood damages under your new Flood Insurance Policy for the first month, as there’s a 30-day waiting period for new Flood Insurance policies to take effect.
There are a few exceptions: Read the rest of this entry »
